An elderly man was arraigned before a Nakuru court for attempted fraud after allegedly posing as a legitimate land owner.

Peter Mwangi was accused of attempting to defraud Joseph Kinuthia on October 9 at Nakuru Town alongside others not before court by pretending that he was in a position to sell them a piece of land in Gilgil.

Mwangi also faced another count of impersonating Kamau Nganga, the owner of the piece of land that he allegedly intended to sell to Kinuthia.

Mwangi is said to have announced that the piece of land in Gilgil was up for sale, where Kinuthia got interested and was ready for negotiation once he saw it.

Upon reaching Gilgil after the deal was agreed in Nakuru, Kinuthia was shown the land that he was interested, but later learnt that the land did not belong to the accused.

Appearing before Senior Principle Magistrate Liz Gicheha, he pleaded not guilty and was released on a surety bond of Sh500,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000.

The case will be heard on November 24.
