Mwangi expressed concern over rising cases of sale of land being reported in his office without consultation between family members.

“Cases of sale of family plots by wazees without involving their wives is on rise,” said Mwangi.

Speaking at Kinoo Ward on Tuesday during a public baraza convened to discuss ways to stem the sale of family land without involving wives, Mwangi urged the county government of Kiambu to hasten the Bill that seeks to overhaul land control management and make it compulsory for female counterparts and their children to be involved in the transactions of family land.

“Wazees sell family plots without the knowledge of their wives or children, a trend that has caused severe domestic quarrels,” said Mwangi.

The chief also warned men against misusing family fortunes whenever they sell land.

“It has come to my attention that some men have sold the family plots and go to the streets,” said Mwangi.

The price of land at Kinoo has sky rocked forcing some men to sell their plots and the situation is made worse by moneybags who have been going around the area buying and holding plots for speculative reasons.

The chief said that the worst hit areas are along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway where virtually every family has sold a portion of land.

Mwangi said that the situation needs urgent address as many families may sell all their land leaving their children without an option except to get them into crimes.
