Parents in Nakuru County now want the area Traffic Police Boss to carryout inspections in school buses.
The parents claimed that most of the area children are ferried to schools in deplorable conditions of many school buses and were always congested inside those buses.
“We have seen areas where a van carries as excess kids which is very dangerous. When the vehicles hold emergency break, many are thrown all over the bus,” said Emily Kimani.
Kimani cited that the children were also forced to sit on each other which was tiring and traumatising.
Isaac Macharia, the town resident also said that the children were not even able to put their seat-belts or travel comfortably.
“Our children are our first priority. Being forced to travel in such conditions is heartbreaking,” said Macharia.
He accused Police of letting such vehicles bypass their inspections.
“They can also be used to ferry dangerous and crude things. The police assume that they are just school buses and hence give them a direct pass at road blocks. This should not happen,” added Macharia.
Brenda Adhiambo claimed that often times schools failed to pay attention to traffic rules.
“Most school buses are speeding and overloaded most of the times. They are also driven recklessly and forced to take shortcuts or veer off the roads to keep time as required of them by school managements. This should not happen,” said Adhiambo.
