A Nakuru-based psychologist has decried over the rising number of cases of drug abuse among the youth in the area.
Speaking to our reporter, Serah Kamau said the number of accidents in Nakuru increases drastically over the weekends, particularly Friday and Saturday nights.
“This is a result of an increase in the number of drunk drivers on the road and mostly the cases involve young people,” said Kamau.
Nakuru Provincial hospital inpatient doctor Shadrack Odhiambo said the number of accident victims they receive every week is high, citing carelessness and drunk driving as the main reason.
“Nakuru Provincial Hospital is spending much every week to treat victims of road accidents which also rise over weekends and holidays,” said Odhiambo.
Odhiambo asked the police to reinforce the alcohol detectors to reduce this menace across the Nakuru county region.
Nakuru Youth against Drugs group study shows alcohol, bhang and tobacco as the most abused substances in Nakuru, further indicating that a lot of young people are introduced to drugs before the age of 30 years.
