The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has claimed that there is interference in the case of the late Joyce Syombua who was murdered together with her two children.
The husband of Joyce Syombua and father of her two children who was at the time of the murder serving as a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldier Peter Mugure is the prime suspect in the case.
On Wednesday, State Counsel Peter Mailanyi informed the court that the sister of the accused had visited Mr Collins Pamba, who is also a suspect in the case and requested him to withdraw his testimony.
The sister of the accused allegedly told the second accused to change his stand in the case and claim that he was forced to issue the testimony that vindicated Peter Mugure.
The second accused nonetheless informed the authorities of the visit and the failed attempt to interfere with the case.
The State went ahead to reiterate that the new evidence served more reason as to why the accused should not be released on bond.
“If the suspect is released on bond, there is a high likelihood that he will interfere with the investigations, we have therefore decided to file a further affidavit to oppose his release and we, therefore, request for more time to do so,” Mr Mailanyi as quoted by Nation.
The State is set to present 26 witnesses to issue their testimonies against Peter Mugure.
