Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

The county security boss lauded members of the public who have been cooperating with police officers on patrol in the area.

"Residents reported one of the suspects to police officers. Upon arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a pistol which they have been using to scare residents at night," said Mariba, Sunday.

He argued that the suspect led police officers to the hiding place of six other suspects.

The commissioner noted that police recovered several stolen mobile phones and other valuables.

"Local youths engaging in criminal activities across the county must know the law will not be lenient on them. I urge youths to venture into activities which are legal to earn a living and not using short cuts to make a living," he noted.

Mariba confirmed that police officers have camped in Miruka in a bid to flush out other criminals who might have been left behind following the arrest of the seven.

The seven suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
