Founding Father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was known as a fearless man, judging by the actions he took at different points of his political life and at times took hardships on fearlessly.
Such was demonstrated in late October 1969, when his clash with former ally and former founding Vice President clashed outside the Nyanza General Hospital in Kisumu.
It is reported that despite warnings that his presence in Kisumu might cause trouble, Kenyatta insisted that he would go there and launch the facility, since Kisumu was in Kenya.
Then Security Intelligence Head Geoffrey Kareithi says that the president scolded and hang up on him as he tried to convince him not to attend the launch.
At the function, the expected happened, as Kenyatta ended up being booed and pelted with stones by Oginga's alleged supporters.
However, the event proceeded after the police opened fire on them, beating the rioters and arresting some.
When all was calm and the event was ready to proceed, Kenyatta took to the podium, where he began by attacking area residents, which saw Oginga take him head on, shouting at him.
This resulted in a verbal exchange, with Kenyatta threatening that he would have dealt with Oginga were he not his friend, but Oginga proved equally fearless, taking the President on.
Oginga proceeded to dare Kenyatta to make true his threats and detain him at the Manyani Maximum Security Prison if that was the punishment he thought would do.
"Detain me at Manyani!" shouted Oginga, who was now openly interrupting Kenyatta for the second time, but Jomo's response was more of demeaning to the man who once deputized him.
"Shut up! It is not you to tell me what to do. I know it myself," said the angry president.
He also took a swipe at Russia, through its ambassador who was present, for attempting to rule Kenya, apparently in reference to Russia's links with Jaramogi.
Jaramogi and his Russian links was the source behind the funds for the establishment of the hospital.
