Police in Ruiru, Kiambu county have launched a probe in a bid to unravel reasons behind the suicide of one of their own who took his own life on Saturday.
Sub County Police Commander Phineas Lingera said that a probe has begun, after the officer was found dangling from a rope in his house, at a time he was supposed to be on duty.
He said that constable Samuel Muthoka, the officer in question, killed himself under unclear circumstances, and was found by his senior.
The senior officer is said to have gone to check on Muthoka, who was attached at the Ruiru Police Station as a driver after he failed to respond to phone calls.
“One of his seniors found him hanging on a rope inside his house after he failed to respond to phone calls,” said Mr Lingera.
The incident came only a few weeks after another officer from the same station took his own life, in protest against being denied a chance to take his child to school.
The officer was reportedly recalled from leave, which angered him.
Such cases have been on the rise across the country lately, with officers lamenting against poor working environments and poor terms and conditions of work.
Others have lamented of deplorable living conditions and poor pay despite being learned, some holding degrees.
