Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has denied claims that the Kieleweke faction of the ruling Jubilee Party, whose member he is, is working under influence of the opposition brigade.
This is thanks to the team's open opposition to Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions and its criticisms on his political actions since Jubilee's 2017 reelection.
The group which has also been engaging the DP in verbal fights has been accused of operating under instructions of opposition leader Raila Odinga by the pro-Ruto rival Tangatanga faction.
Speaking on Sunday, Ngunjiri refuted the claims, shifting the blame to Tangatanga which has devoted its time to attacking Raila, claiming that its members appear like the ones deployed to popularize his name through their attacks.
He said his side is working in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta and has not been deployed by anyone to fight the DP.
“During campaigns, we printed the President’s photo as the main one on posters while ours remained small. We told locals we would defend him in his tenure and that is what we are doing," he is told the Nation.
Ngunjiri spoke in the company of his counterparts Mercy Gakuya (Kasarani), Wangari Mwaniki (Kigumo) and Muturi Kigano (Kangema).
The first term parliamentarian noted that the team will stand with Uhuru whether or not his 2018 truce with Raila holds.
"The President later made peace with his arch-rival and told us to seize fire and that’s what we did,” he added.
