A man and a lady have been arrested today in Kisumu following an attempt to solicit money from a resident in Kisumu. The 2 were arrested after conning a woman Kshs. 8000.
Police intelligence from the area caught the 2 who are believed to have inside access to Kenya power's records which they use to call a customer who has applied for power.
The suspects allegedly called the woman identified as Mary Sitinei telling her that they were Kenya Power Officials and that she would access power at a cheaper price if she sent Ksh.8000 to get her name into the system. They added that a fee of Kshs. 4000 was to be paid later on.
The 2 were arrested when they were collecting the 2nd part of the agreed Kshs. 12,000.
After visiting Kenya Power offices and finding out that the money she had sent the 2 via M-pesa was not in their records , Mary then laid a trap together with the police.
“They acted like very genuine Kenya Power officials. I thought I would never recover my money but I thank God the 2 are now in the hands of police,” she said.
