Governor Afred Mutua's wife, Lillian Nganga, has been awarded for her unrelenting efforts in creating cancer awareness in the county.

Ms Nganga was feted by Held Sister Foundation in an event dubbed ‘Fashion Meets Cancer’ held at the Hilton Hotel Nairobi on Friday night.

Nganga was lauded for being on the front line in fighting cancer whose prevalence is said to be on the rise in Machakos County.

While acknowledging the award, Ms Nganga reiterated her call to Machakos people to go for cancer screening.

She said through early screenings the disease can easily monitored and treated.

“Kenyans and specifically Machakos people should change their lifestyles and also go for regular cancer screenings to curb the spread of the disease,” she said.

She said treatment of cancer remains a challenge to many patients.

Ms Nganga observed that thousands of cancer victims are at pain and cannot afford specialised treatment.

She asked the national and county governments to invest in specialised equipment as a way of curbing cancer.

The Held Sister Foundation award recognises and celebrates people leading in the fight against cancer, those battling it, survivors and sponsors.
