Addressing Kisii residents at the Gusii Stadium during the Mashujaa day celebrations, governor James Ongwae said that the county is working closely with the meteorological department, noting that in the past, various parts of the county have been affected by El-Nino rains and they would not want to see a repeat of the same.

He noted that the county government has advised residents who live in places like Nyantira in Bobasi, Nyansasa in South Mugirango and Bogusero in Kitutu Chache which are prone to landslides during rainy seasons to relocate to safer grounds.

The governor said his government allocated Sh30 million to help deal with such emergencies and called on the County Assembly Speaker to pass the Bill on the allocation once it gets to the floor of the assembly.

Governor Ongwae however faulted the national government for delay in releasing money for the counties, saying it was solely responsible for the financial woes facing counties.

“Mr Speaker, once the Bill is brought to the assembly, makes sure it is passed quickly. I also want to ask the national government to release money for the counties, they are to blame for the financial problems facing counties,” he said.
