Kibera residents ailing from high blood pressure have a hope and a challenge to fight the disease without spending much money.
Speaking during a free blood pressure check up at DC on Wednesday, Emily Otieno Ochieng’ from Amref said those who live with high blood pressure can live normal lives if they do a lot of exercises.
“We sometimes believe that medicine cures everything but having blood pressure can be cured by exercising. Every person who suffers from this disease should be brave and exercise a lot,” said Ochieng’.
“Exercising your body helps you relax therefore helping your blood pressure to remain on a normal level. Taking a lot of water can also help reducing blood pressure. You should also know that every person is capable of living with blood pressure,” she added.
According to an Amref report, in Africa, one in every four people under the age of 60 dies due to complications related to sustained high blood pressure.
In Kenya however, one in every two adults have high blood pressure.
