Investors seeking to own parcels of land in Athi River town and its environs have been told to be wary of rogue land brokers to avoid being conned of their money.
Addressing a land board meeting in his office on Wednesday, Mavoko Sub County Deputy Commissioner Makori Kodeck, said there was high rate of land grabbing in the region.
Kodeck said there were cartels all over the sub county who were experts in selling imaginary land to unsuspecting clients who had no clue they could be conned.
He disclosed that there were lots of such cases pending in local courts of people who had been conned of their money in the name of being sold for parcels of land.
The commissioner said that most of the rogue land brokers were such bold that they even sold land belonging to other individuals, public institutions and corporate organisations as long as they were lying idle.
Kodeck said most of the innocent investors who fall victims of such injustices were those who work in Nairobi City who are eager to buy land in the city's out skirts to develop or build homes.
According to him, the investors offered the perpetrators quick and ready markets without much trouble as the majority never had time to check if all land transfer procedures and documents were followed and secured.
He however warned such brokers stating that the government was working on a strategy to identify locate and arrest them to ensure their illicit practices came to an end.
