The Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Thika branch staff members in partnership with rotary club from Thika on Wednesday planted over 1,000 tree seedlings in Kalimoni, Juja Sub-County.

KCB Thika branch manager Mrs Carolyn Mwanzo, speaking after the activity, said that twice a year KCB has been involved in assisting the needy in the society or donating furniture to the school of disabled pupils as a way of positively contributing to the community’s needs.

She recalled that in the past Joy town and Thika School for the disabled have been assisted with books and cash saying that the gesture was done by the bank after making profits in its operations.

The manager appealed to members of the community who also participated in the exercise to take care of the seedlings so that the environment in the area could be improved.

The regional Kenya Forest Director Mr Githinji Gakere said that the forest service required the assistance of the community to succeed in controlling rampant illegal deforestation in such areas where residents are fond of burning charcoal and thus rendering the area semi-arid and without water.
