Addressing reporters at Karanjee estate on Monday, Limuru Youth for Change chairman Newton Kinuthia said that most youth in the sub county are falling to drug abuse and other crimes because they are not engaged.

He said that the county government should consider the youth when giving out jobs so as to keep them busy.

“We want to ask the county government to at least involve the youth in development,” he said, adding that the rate of crime will reduce if they are kept busy.

The chairman also asked the government to sensitise the youth on the funds being given by the county and the national government.

Mr Kinuthia said that most of the youth at the grassroot level have no idea on Uwezo Fund adding that they only hear it from the media and friends.

“Leaders should organise forums for us to understand and know about the Uwezo Fund and others,” he said.

At the same time, Kinuthia asked the youth to spearhead unity and cohesion in the area noting that prevalence of unity will go a long way in development.

He also asked professionals from the area to contribute towards development and help nurture talent among young people.

He said that the youth have talent that if nurtured will curb unemployment and promote socio-economic development.
