A 28-year-old woman was on Friday arraigned in court in Nakuru to face charges of assaulting a minor.

Judith Akoth, denied the charges before Principle Magistrate Felix Kombo, and was released on a Sh50,000 cash bond pending the hearing of the case on February 11.

According to the prosecution desk, the accused, on evening of January 5 this year at Langa langa area within Nakuru town inflicted serious bodily harm to Joseph Ontita, aged 8, after he hit him several times using a wooden item.

The court heard that the accused, who is the stepmother of the minor also failed to take the minor for medical attention after the incident.

The court was told that the accused, while accusing the minor to have consumed food meant for her own child, abandoned him outside the house, before neighbours came to his rescue.

The prosecution added that the minor’s father, who is a bus driver, was away on duty when the incident occurred.

The court heard that the minor was taken to hospital by Good Samaritans the following day, who also reported the matter to Nakuru Central Police Station.
