Police in Eldoret have arrested one suspect accused of transporting illegal alcohol on a bus from Kitale to Naivasha.
According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Johnston Ipara, the lady by the name Jacklyn Omusundo aged 23 years was transporting illegal liquor in the Climax Coaches bus.
“Today in the morning while we were in our normal working routine, we stopped one bus carrying passengers coming from Kitale, when we inspected the bus we got luggage which looked like sack carrying maize but after opening it was hiding illegal alcohol,” said Ipara.
The Uasin Gishu County Police Commander who spoke to the press at Eldoret Central police station on Friday said the lady was found in possession of 100 litres of Chang'aa which were repackaged in whiskey used bottles.
He said the illegal alcohol was being transported to Naivasha.
“We want to give a stern warning to those owning buses allowing illegal goods to be transported that we will give a proposal to NTSA so that their license is revoked because they work with criminals to transport goods that have been banned,” added the Uasin Gishu County police boss.
He also revealed that the police have also arrested 48 people in Uasin Gishu County who were in possession 60 litres of Chang'aa, 24 rolls of bhang and that they will be arraigned in court on Friday.
