An illicit brewer arrested in Kabete, Kiambu County after beating up four chiefs has been released on Sh.25, 000 cash bail. The man was arrested after he accosted the four administrators and beat them up.
On Thursday, the man appeared before the Kiambu law Court where he was charged over the same. The man denied the charges levelled against him before he was freed on cash bail.
The man masterminded the beating of Wangige location chief Samuel Mburu, Peter Gachuhi (Gathiga) Robert Muiruri (Kirangari) and Muigai Robert (Ruku) before he was arrested.
While appearing in court, the man said that he was the sole breadwinner of the family and detaining him over the matter will see his family suffer at the end of the day. The man was also warned against threatening the chiefs after the freedom was granted to him.
He was arrested on Monday after a tip-off from the members of the general public. He was taken to the Kibiko Kabete Police Station before he was presented to court. One of the chiefs said that the man had been arrested on several occasions over the sameBut the suspect’s lawyer told the court to release him on bail since his family depends on his income.
“This is a man we’ve arrested severally, we know him and he operates around. We feel our lives are in danger…bearing on what has happened. We need to be armed or even being given police escorts all the time,” said one of the chiefs.
He is expected to appear in court in January 2020.
