A 35 year old woman was arrested on Monday morning in Kyumbuni village, Ekalakala sub location in Masinga county for trading illicit brew. This was verified by the area chief Patrick Nzyoka who had initiated the home search following rumours among the villagers.

"I have been getting reports from Kyumbuni villagers that the woman has been buying the brews from places in Thika and selling them from her homestead despite the persistent against illicit brews," explained Chief Nzyoki.

Nzyoki said that he reported the case to police officers in Masinga police station who searched the woman's homestead and found more than fifty litters of the illicit brews. They arrested the woman and locked her in Masinga police station to await court summoning later the same day.

The area sub chief Mzee Timothy Kioko who also arrived at the scene said that people should continue to report such cases so as to fight drug abuse especially among the youth who are getting their lives wasted by drug addiction.

"Illicit brewing and any other drug trafficking are vices that we as a society should fight in unity because we have witnessed many of our people getting addicted to these drugs. It drives down our economy because it makes people neglect their responsibilities due to addiction; it even make our children drop out of school," said Mr. Timothy.
