Parents from the Gusii community have been challenged to focus on their children's education since land in the region is diminishing fast and education is the only legacy they can leave for their children.
The former Kisii Municipal Council Mayor Edward Nyamweya has warned the Gusii community against focusing on land which he said was diminishing very fast as population pressure continues to strain the existing available land in the region.
Speaking on Friday evening at Mwamba Mixed Primary Academy in the outskirts of Kisii town while presiding over a graduation ceremony for pre-unit children in the school, Nyamweya observed that education for children was the only legacy any parent can give to their children.
"I am reminding parents from the Gusii community that the time they used to focus on land is long gone and that they should re-direct their investments and resources into educating their children," remarked Nyamweya.
Nyamweya advised the area parents on the importance of taking their children to school saying that education was not only meant to secure white collar jobs as some parents believed instead it can assist one to venture into private entrepreneurship successfully and succeed in life.
