Kisii County Commissioner has said that all road side kiosks built near banks in Kisii town will be removed and relocated to other areas.
Speaking during the Mashujaa day celebrations at the Gusii stadium, Chege Mwangi said that the moves comes in wake of criminal activities taking place near commercial banks, attributing such activities to congestion in the kiosks, hence the move.
Mwangi asked Kisii Central OCPD to ensure that the exercise is conducted in the right way and also called on people in charge of community policing in the county to stop using excessive force when executing their duties.
“There are criminal gangs terrorising the residents and we are not going to be patient with them. The vigilantes, peace and security committees and community policing members should work with the security teams to ensure security in the region is high," he said.
He added: "but in other places, they are the ones who want to boss the security officers and we cannot allow that to continue,” he said.
He cited a recent incident in Bonchari where the community policing team roughed up the area chief, leaving him nursing injuries.
He said his office will ensure that such incidences are not witnessed again.
