Kiambu county government plans to set aside seed capital in the next financial year to start a youth Sacco dubbed Kiambu County Youth Sacco.

Thika west sub county youth Officer Mr Laban Mwangi said the funds will be sourced from departments of trade, Industrialization, Investment and Co-operative, Tourism, county Assembly and other stakeholders.

Speaking on Thursday during consultative meeting at probation's hall in Thika, Mwangi said the society will serve over 0.75 million youths in the county by creating an environment for mobilising resources for their development.

The officer said that the youths are vulnerable to be used by politicians for their political gains because they lack income generating activities. He revealed that cash amounting to Sh9.78 million would be solicited for the course.

“These Sacco will have branches in all our sub counties to coordinate the membership registration,” he said.

The members of the Sacco’s will be expected to buy shares and deposit their monthly contributions to enable the Sacco be vibrant.

“The management of the Sacco will be by members elected during the delegates meeting something that will allay fears that old men will hijack the process,’ he assured youths.

Mwangi added that the county government will also create linkages with other institutions including Youth Funds and Uwezo Fund.

“We shall further create linkages with institutions like Uwezo and youth funds to help our youths grow in business,” he added
