Njoro OCPD and Njoro Police Station OCS were on Tuesday summoned in a Nakuru court to explain the raid that occurred at the Njoro Safaris Rhino Hotel.

The lawyer representing the hotel, Kipkoech Ngetich had made an application on September 16, to summon the two officers who led the raid at the hotel, that led to the arrest of its workers.

The OCPD, Fredrick Lai and OCS Mershark Mwangangi are said to have led a group of officers from Njoro Police Station who forcefully entered the hotel on September 8, and reportedly beat up the clients and workers and arrested the hotel manager.

The two did not respond to the allegations and it will be until a report from the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) is presented before the court to determine the incident at the hotel.

The officers are said to have been pursuing robbery suspects who had allegedly run into the hotel.

The prosecution lawyer wanted the two in charge of the police station, to explain to the court why their patrons were frogmarched to the police station naked and why they broke the hotel rooms’ doors during the process.

Ng'etich also told the court that he wrote a letter to IPOA on September 16, and investigations were going on.

The management of the hotel also claimed that they lost Sh34,000 during the raid which they say was taken by the officers at the counter that night.

On September 9, Isaac Karugut, who is the hotel manager with others not before the court then, was accused of obstructing officers and preventing them from conducting a search at the hotel in Njoro Sub-County.

He denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Joel Ng'eno, and was released on a cash bail of Sh40,000.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku said that since the case is being investigated by IPOA, the court should not hurry but would proceed with the case against the hotel manager as IPOA makes the report on the investigations regarding the attack.

The case will be mentioned on December 17.
