Kathiani Ward Representative Geoffrey Mutuku wants the National Government to allocate more funds to youth empowerment kitties.
Addressing youths at Kaewa village on Friday, Mutuku said more allocation will see more youths benefit.
The MCA observed that youth empowerment kitties such as the Uwezo and Youth Funds have helped improve the lives of many young people.
“I want to ask the national government to increase the allocations to youth empowerment kitties,” said Mutuku.
The MCA said that over 200 youths from the ward have benefited from Uwezo Fund.
He urged youths to continue sending in their applications noting that the ward still has some funds to disburse.
Mutuku also asked youth and disabled persons to take advantage of the 30 per cent tenders set aside for them.
He said that working with the government will expose them (youths and disabled persons) to more opportunities.
The MCA however complained that most youth and persons with disabilities have little information concerning the 30 per cent tenders.
“The government should spearhead programmes that will enable our youths to be sensitised on various programmes,” notes Mutuku.
Mutuku called on the Machakos County Government to lead by example and formulate policies that will create job opportunities for youths.
