Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday, the Ababu Namwamba  led AK said that the training should focus on building their ability to handle county operations as some still do not know their job descriptions well.

AK wants all county staff to be aware of their functions.

The national and county lawmakers in an Annual General Meeting themed ‘raising the bar in oversight and accountability’ held in Kisumu Hotel also resolved on the need for flexibility in the use of professional expertise in the county.

“We need to involve the experts and professionals in the different fields in our operations as the PACs because we need the best for our counties,” Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi said.

Vice chair Omar Ahmed said that professionals and research institutions will help MCAs do their roles.

The MCAs however asked for support from colleagues in playing their oversight roles in the Public Accounts Committees.

“The accounts committees in the assemblies may not know everything but if the whole assembly works to help this committee, then we can be sure that we are going to play a better oversight role,” MCA Rose Maitai said.

The MCAs were however challenged to safeguard their counties’ resources to help in developing them.
