Nakuru youths have been advised to take up agriculture instead of waiting for the few available white collar jobs.
Speaking at Naivasha town over the weekend, county senator James Mungai. The Senator said that agriculture remains one of the lucrative sectors that should be embraced by the youths.
He said that there is money in agriculture and that youths should take the opportunity and earns wealth.
“Youths should embrace farming instead of waiting for white jobs that are few,” he said, adding that the government needs to sensitize and encourage youths to take up agriculture.
The senatorial law maker further said that the country’s food security is at stake if young people are not compelled to take up farming.
Mungai observed that young people from other countries across the world have taken up agriculture and earning big.
The senator asked the government to put in place more measures that will create job opportunities for the youths.
He observed that unemployment remains one of the big challenges facing the country and that stakeholder in the private and public sector should work towards finding solutions to the problems.
Meanwhile, Mungai wants the government to buy maize from farmers at a good price. He stated that the Sh2300 for a 90 kg bag is not enough.
He asked the government to buy farmers maize at Sh3500 so that farmers can benefit farmers.
