They claim with the current rains, many parts of the road have become impassable interfering with most of their activities due to poor state of the roads, hence forcing them to seek long alternative routes that are time wasting.

“Whenever it rains, moving from one point to another is very difficult, sometimes one is forced to go around the town using the main road simply because the roads meant for that purpose are not in good state,” said Steven Opondo a resident of the town.

Opondo added that some vehicle owners are sometimes forced to park away from the homes due to the fear of getting stuck in the mud while on their way back home, “They take this risk despite the dangers involved.”

According to traders in the town, after raining the number of customers looking for goods drastically reduces and this can be attributed to impassable roads.

“Rain is our greatest nightmare here in as much as it is a blessing to us from God, especially for farmers because after heavy downpours, it is better to close work for the day because nobody will go to an extent of manoeuvring through muddy roads just to go buy something,” said Caren Korir, a fruit vendor in the town.

Those residents are now calling on the county government to do something about the poor state of the roads saying that the county’s economy is greatly affected when the roads are impassable.
