Naivasha MP John Kihagi has appealed to parents in the constituency to monitor the activities of their children.
Speaking at Naivasha Town on Monday, the MP said that many parents have neglected their parental roles a move that has exposed their children to social evil.
The MP raised concerns over the high number of young people who have resulted to drug abuse, prostitution and crime.
“Parents and guardians must wake up and take their parental roles seriously,” he said.
The MP warned that the future of the constituency is doomed if young people will be let on their own.
He further blamed the society for neglecting its social role of shaping the behaviour of children.
Kihagi said that urgent measures including establishment of rehabilitation centers must be taken urgently.
He asked the Nakuru County government to intervene and help rescue many youths who he allegedly claimed are being consumed by crime.
Kihagi has also appealed to the national government to deploy armed security personnel to schools, colleges and universities across the country.
He said that with the terror attack that rocked Garissa University on Thursday last week killing students and injuring others, there is need for more security for students.
The MP further asked the government to investigate and take action against the instigators of the attack.
Kihagi urged Kenyans to support the government as it focuses o fight terror groups.
