Naivasha MP John Kihagi has called on the government to intensify the war against Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) that is prevalent in the sub-county.
Speaking at Naivasha town on Tuesday, the Naivasha lawmaker said that GBV, especially that targets women and girls is an act that should be stopped completely.
He wondered why suspects linked to women assault and violence still walk free despite the existence of stiff laws.
“The government must spearhead the war against gender violence especially against women,” said Kihiga.
The MP also called on activists to be in the frontline in fighting such vices that erode the morals of the society.
Kihagi also asked the government to set in place agencies that will help survivors of Gender-based violence.
To support the fight against Sexual Gender Based Violence, Kihagi said the constituency will initiate campaigns to eradicate the vice.
He asked women not to fear and report assault cases committed against them to enable law enforcers’ act.
Women Empowerment Link Executive director Grace Mbugua said that Naivasha, Gilgil and Molo record high cases of Sexual Gender Based Violence.
‘Three girls are raped in Naivasha every day while their parents and guardians remain silent about it’ said Mbugua.
Mbugua who said her organization is taking over 100 survivors of Sexual Gender Based Violence also called on the government to implement stiffer penalties on the perpetrators.
