Administration Officer in the Office of the Kisii Governor,Patrick Lumumba has tipped residents from the region on the importance of investing in the shares offered by the local saccos, not only to enhance their individual economic empowerment, but also transform the region's economy.

Speaking at Gusii Institute of Technology after addressing the Sacco's delegates during their Annual Delegates Meeting,Lumumba regretted that, despite the region receiving slightly over 60percent of the total cash channelled to the Central Bank of Kenya's Kisumu branch, majority of the region's residents failed to use such potential to invest inthe local saccos to scale down poverty in the region.

He hinted that, soon the two county governments from the region will initiate a share recruitment drive from the grassroots to mobilize area residents to buy shares in Wakenya Pamoja Sacco to ensure it grows into one of the prestigious and competitive financial services providers in the region.

"We must  strive to ensure our locally-owned financial insittutions, particularly saccos which give our people affordable credits and loans are supported to mobilize their funds internally instead of depending on external borrowing for onward lending to their members,"stated Lumumba.
