A 23-year-old woman was on Wednesday arraigned before a Nakuru court over the murder of a fifth-year Egerton University student.
Patricia Mwololo is accused of killing David Onchere at Ngondu Egerton Trading Centre.
The court heard that the accused allegedly killed her boyfriend at his house on the night of July 7, 2019.
Mwololo denied the charges before Justice Joel Ngugi and asked to be released on bail.
The prosecution, however, opposed the bail application and asked the court to detain the accused in police custody claiming she may abscond court if released on bail.
State Counsel Amos Chigiti argued that the accused, a butcher at Egerton area, went into hiding after Ongeri was found dead inside his rental house.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) handling the case trailed her and arrested her on July 23 in Kibra where she was hiding.
Her lawyer, however, said that her client was not hiding and that her parents took her to Kibra for care and protection after she tried to commit suicide following the incident.
Justice Ngugi who questioned why the parents failed to inform the authorities about their daughter's whereabouts failed to release the accused on bail saying that the prosecution had proved she is a flight risk.
“Bail is denied, however, the case will be listed for hearing on a priority basis on account of this denial of bail. The accused person shall continue to be held in custody during the pendency of the case or until the court reconsiders this bail decision,” ruled Justice Ngugi.
