Police in Nyamira have arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of having killed his wife and dumped her remains in Charachani River, Nyamira south sub-county.

Sammy Otenyo is alleged to have murdered his wife on Monday October 5 in the evening and thrown her badly mutilated body in the river. The body was discovered on Saturday afternoon after children playing along the river bank noticed a part of the body floating.

Police removed decomposing body parts of a woman from the river on Saturday after children swimming in the river saw some parts floating on the banks. They raised alarm and villagers on thorough search found the dismembered body but with several other parts detached and missing.

Otenyo was first suspected of the awful act after the wife was reportedly missing from the village. He is said to have gone to his married daughter’s home where he claimed to be looking for his wife and claimed he had suspected that she might have been killed. His daughter Violet Kwamboka did not take it lightly. She informed her mother’s relatives.

Confirming the incident, County security coordinator Mr Mwarungu Mwandoe said that they have launched investigation into the killing sp that justice could be done to both parties.

“We have indeed arrested the husband to the deceased for further interrogation into the killing and we are treating him purely as a suspect until our investigations are concluded. I urge the public to remain calm and I assure you that justice will be done,” said Mwarungu.

According to the villagers, the suspect had been jailed for poisoning and killing his children some years back. His seven years old boy is reportedly missing since the offence was committed.

Irate villagers torched four of his houses.
