The increased water levels at Lake Nakuru National Park have forced Kenya Wildlife Services to move the offices and gate entrance of the facility. Warden In charge of the facility Dickson Ritan said they had to move the offices to a former hostel that was located inside the national park after their other offices were submerged in water. “We had to move the offices to a higher ground otherwise to avert disaster. We have also moved the gate of that facility and we created a road that visitors to the park are now using,” he added. Ritan said that the lake had started receding and the water levels going down albeit by a small margin. “The lake water levels have gone down by at least 20 centimeters. We however estimate that it will take at least eight years for the water levels to return back to its normal position,” he cited. Ritan attributed the increased in water levels to global warming, citing that all the lakes in Rift Valley were experiencing the same phenomena. “After every fifty years the water levels are known to rise and this has been the scenario for the last three years,” He added. Ritan added that there have been several cases of wildlife fighting over territorial space.
