A middle aged man was on Monday arraigned before a Nakuru court after over alleged possession of bhang.
Simeon Muratha Muindi was allegedly found with the drugs on October 2 in Ahero village along the Nakuru-Nyahururu highway.
The court heard that Muindi who was in the company of two of his accomplices, not before the court, was approached by two police officers who were transferring inmates to Bahati Police Station and when they were ordered to stop they started fleeing.
This prompted the two officers to pursue them.
The accused was nabbed while his colleagues escaped and after a search, he was found in possession of rolls of bhang worth Sh4 m.
He was consequently arrested and taken to Bahati Police Station.
Muindi who pleaded guilty to the charge however begged Senior Principal Magistrate Joel Ngeno to free him since he was only keeping custody of the drugs for his friend who escaped the arrest.
"Kindly Sir, set me free because the bhang was not mine, it was my friend's but he escaped. I am only paying for his sins," he pleaded.
He was released on a cash bail of Sh 1000 or stay 90 days behind bars.
