Elected members of the county assembly of Kisii have come out in support of assembly employees who were suspended by a court recently. Speaking at Matunwa church on Saturday, Bomorenda ward representative John Ombati said that all assembly employees should be confirmed to avoid ‘bad blood’ between leaders who are pushing for their suspension, those against and the employees themselves. Former councillor Steve Arika wondered why the employees were being mistreated at the ‘expense of one selfish individual who is keen on gaining mileage’. “These are our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters who have left other jobs to join the assembly as staff. Who has perfect replacements?” posed Arika. Kiogora MCA Samuel Apoko urged the leaders to address the issue of employment with a high spirit of sobriety since no strangers were employed in the county assembly. He further stated that he is working closely with Jubilee administration to bring development to his people. “Though I am an elected leader from ODM, my people need development and I don’t have any reason to deny them the route to where development is and this is not politics,” said Apoko. “There is no room to politicise each and every issue that is not development-oriented,” he added.
