Taps in Ng'eno area of Kibera are a just a mere site for the residents to see and look in despair as hopes of water coming out of them remain nothing but a dream.

This saddening situation has forced quite a number of residents to rely on a seasonal swamp to get water for domestic use.

The residents have accused the county government of neglecting the area.

Speaking to this writer, Maria Achieng' a resident and a mother of three children said they have been neglected for years and nothing seems to give them hope for any change soon.

"The politicians come and give us promises before we elect them but after we put them into office, they go silent on us despite seeing the challenges that we face daily," said Achieng'.

The situation is so bad that some of the well off residents of the Ng'eno suburbs which is directly opposite the slum assist in giving clean water through 10 and 20 liter jerricans.

"The rich people from the other side sometimes see us washing clothes in the swamp and pity us and a few of them give us clean water once in a while," she added.

A disgruntled Timothy Khamala was also quick to air his frustrations about the empty promises they get and lack of proper water supply in the area.

"All the governments that have been in power never see the poor in such situations. All they want from us are votes, so for us we will forever remain poor and no facilities are put up to improve our lives," said the cobbler.

The residents are pleading for help from the county government to solve the water crisis which remains a crisis in the area.

Most of them are at risk from contracting waterborne diseases such as typhoid, bilharzia and cholera.
