In a tweet, Murkomen said that Sonko could be a victim of political wars adding that he has a constitutional right to be presumed innocent until he is proven guilty by the court.

“Gov.Sonko enjoys his Constitutional right to be presumed innocent till proved guilty. He is my friend & I wish him well as he proves his innocence. You don’t run away from friends. I also know many governors; Mombasa, Machakos, Siaya, etc who have protected coz (sic) they are politically correct," he wrote.

This comes after DPP Haji ordered Governor Sonko’s arrest on Friday morning due to the loss of Sh357 million.

"Investigation into these crimes have been challenging because of the repeated attempt by the accused to obstruct the cause of the investigations by deploying investigation tactics in addition to using goons to threaten law enforcement officials carrying out their constitutional mandate,” Haji said.

Investigations conducted by EACC into the loss of funds indicated that Sonko may have received kickbacks in some of the garbage tenders the county floated.
