Police have confirmed that the Coast region is safe for those wishing to spend their Christmas holidays in the region.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Njoroge Mbugua while speaking to journalists from Kilifi, said the Coast region is safe for Christmas regardless of security issues that have hit the region in the past few months.
Mbugua is at the Coast to asses security levels during this festive season.
Mombasa like other Coastal towns is now recording a high number of tourists who are in for the holidays.
However, a number of security issues have been hitting the county, with machete-wielding gangs emerging to be one of the recurring security concern in the region.
“We are having a lot of visitors at the Coast and I must come to tell officers to protect the public. They should serve the citizens well and ensure that traffic rules are observed,” said Mbugua.
The Deputy IG further cautioned PSV drivers about taking routes they are not used to, he said they end up causing accidents.
“Police officers should man the roads well and ensure that drivers are not overloading vehicles with passengers. Vehicles must ply the routes they are used to because, when a driver uses a new road, he will not be able to identify which part of the road is bad,” said Mbugua.
He, Mbugua will end his Coast region tour by visiting Mombasa and finally Kwale County.
