Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru have mourned Rahab Wambui Muhuni, the mother of former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth.
Wambui, 86, died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi where she has been admitted for the past six months.
Gatanga Member of Parliament Nduati Ngugi, a close confidant of Kenneth’s family, said the deceased has been receiving treatment at the city health facility since December 2018.
“We lost her today morning (Thursday) after a long illness. She has fought a long battle but she has gone to be with the Lord,” Ngugi told the Nation.
Waiguru took to social media to send her condolence message and prayed for the family to have God's peace and comfort.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to Hon Peter Kenneth, family and friends on the resting of your dear mum, Rahab Wambui. Through this difficult time may the Lord graciously shepherd you with His peace and comfort," the governor tweeted.
"My condolences to Peter Kenneth on the loss of his mother. May she rest in eternal peace," wrote Kalonzo.
Other leaders who have condoled with Kenneth's family include President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Murang'a Women Representative Sabina Chege among others.
"My condolences to my friend and a former Gatanga MP and Assistant Minister Hon Peter Kenneth for the loss of his lovely mother Mrs Rahab Wambui. My thoughts and prayers are with him and the entire bereaved family during this trying moment. Shine on your way mum," Chege posted on Facebook.
