Kiambu County Women Representative Annah Nyokabi has called for an end in corruption in the management of the elderly kitty in Juja Sub-County.
This comes after a series of claims that the elderly who had been short listed earlier have been left out of the payroll for a period of three months.
The legislator said the elderly who note any incidences of corruption in the funds disbursement should report immediately to her office to ensure she takes stern action against the corrupt officials.
The women rep said she had received information that the elderly are being asked for kick-backs before they are given their money and anyone who refuses to give the bribe is denied his or her share.
Speaking in Juja on Tuesday when she disbursed relief food to Kalimoni residents, Nyokabi said that are conmen who operate at post offices adding that she will look for ways of addressing the challenge and have them weeded out of the system.
“I have enough information and I will conduct my own investigations and crackdown on those involved in the ill intentioned acts of harassing the elderly people,” she said.
The semi arid areas of the sub-county have been reported to be affected by insufficiency of rainfall thus forcing the county government of Kiambu and the MPs to donate food for the affected people.
The women rep also called on the residents to adopt farming of short term crops.
She said she would be initiating a water project in the area and asked the residents to learn how to till their lands even when the rains fail.
