Youth in Athi River have been urged attend a sensitisation meeting scheduled for today (October 29) in a bid to eliminate drugs and substance abuse in the region.
The sentiment was made by Mavoko Assistant County Commissioner, David Tegutwa, who said his office had organised a forum to educate the youth on drugs, their consequences and need for eliminating them in the region.
"I call on all the youth to turn up in large numbers tomorrow (Thursday) for the sensitisation meeting my office has organised so as to benefit from the forum," said Tegutwa.
Tegutwa who addressed the press at his office in Athi River town on Wednesday said they are committed to ensuring complete elimination of drug and substance abuse from the region.
He said they are applying various strategies towards the fight against the vice in the region hence confident that they will win the war.
Asked why the youth, Tegutwa, argued that they comprised the largest population in the society with the highest drug and substance consumption rates as compared to other groups of people in the community.
Tegutwa however noted that all the groups including the elderly and women would also be reached once the youth are sensitised and empowered to be good will ambassadors against drug abuse.
He warned drug peddlers in the region asserting that security apparatus were not a sleep and therefore their days were numbered.
Tegutwa advised traders of drug and other hard substances to close shop and resort to alternative legal businesses before law caught up with them.
