Kisii County residents have been encouraged to embrace voluntary HIV testing to know their statuses and live positively instead of living in suspicion and fear about their wellbeing.

County Director of Health Services Dr Geoffrey Otomu on Tuesday afternoon lamented that almost 31 years since the detection of the dreaded HIV/Aids, majority of the residents from the region are yet to accept that the disease is a reality.

Speaking at Gusii stadium to mark the World Aids Day, Otomu underscored the importance of residents going for voluntary HIV testing as part of the efforts to reduce cases of new infections in the region.

"I am encouraging residents from this county to take a step and go for voluntary HIV testing as part of the efforts to know their statuses and if they are infected, to seek medication early and continue living positively,” stated the health boss.

The director also warned residents against discriminating those infected with the disease and instead urged them to support and love them as any other member of society.
