Workers in Machakos County through the Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU) on Saturday gave a 14-day strike notice to the government over unpaid wages.
The workers said that their salaries and allowances have not been paid for the past two months and no explanation has been given from by the County Government.
Through the KCGWU Secretary Machakos branch Mr Chris Mutua, the workers gave the County Government 14 days to wire the money to their respective bank accounts failure to which they will go on strike.
“Banks have written to the workers who have outstanding loan balances for failure of paying the monthly repayment amount and they have threatened to auction their property,” he said.
Mutua added that the County Government needs to permanently employ the casual workers who have been on contract basis for long time.
The workers also complained that their landlords have evicted them from their houses for failing to pay rent as they called on Governor Dr Alfred Mutua to address the issue.
The workers said that their children have been forced to stay out of school due to lack of school fees due to their unpaid wages.
