Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiseri has been called upon to start stemming the rampant corruption in the police force by cleaning up the traffic department in the country.
Speaking in Nakuru town, Bahati Member of Parliament, Kimani Ngunjiri said that, Nkaiseri, has an opportunity of going down the books of history by cleaning the corrupt police force.
Ngunjiri said the fight of corruption in the police force should start with the traffic department which he said should be scraped off.
“I want to tell my friend Nkaiseri that he should immediately start cleaning up the traffic department in this country because it is the department which has dented the image of the entire police service. There is no need of having so many officers along our roads when all they do is to collect money from motorists, let the minister deploy other mechanisms of dealing and arresting traffic law offenders,” said Ngunjiri.
Ngunjiri said all traffic police officers should be given other duties terming them as ‘idle corrupt public officers’.
“I don’t see the reason as to why the government is wasting a lot of money paying people who don’t do their work as they are required to, let them be removed from the roads and they be assigned other duties,” he said.
Ngunjiri has previously been charged with assaulting traffic police officers on two occasions in Nairobi and Nakuru but he was cleared of the charges.
