Speaking at Thika town on Monday, area MP Alice Ng’ang’a said that women are reluctant to seek development funds.

She observed that from the applications made so far the number of women is very low.

“The number of women applying for development funds is very low, it is important to apply for these funds and better their ventures,” said Ng’ang’a.

The MP said that women are pillars of the society and that they should lead by example adding that they will only boost their socio-economic lives if they utilize state funds.

She indicated that the funds being given by the county and national government are meant to improve the living standards of women, youths and persons with disabilities.

Nga’ng’a said that poverty and unemployment will be eradicated if women and youths take advantage of the funds being given out by the state.

The MP further said that the exercise to scrutinise and shortlist applicants of various development funds in the constituency will start soon.

She said that applicants who are in groups are likely to get a larger share of the funds, adding that a training workshop on how to utilize the funds will be conducted on successful applicants.

The legislator stated that she is committed to improve the living standards of Thika locals, saying that she will not be swayed by petty politics.

Nga’ng’a said that she has initiated various development projects which are meant to empower the residents.
