Trade on the counterfeit goods could soon be coming to a halt after the Chairman of the Kenya Bureau of Standards; Lucas Maitha announced that the organization has invested heavily technologically to fight the vice.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, during the commemoration of 40 years of KEBS, Maitha said that the technology is going to help them identify substandard goods and counterfeits easily.

"The people we have contracted to help us come up with technological solutions have told us that in the next 3 months everything will be in its place", said Maitha.

The Chairman also blamed the Kenya's porous borders for the proliferation of counterfeits in the market. "Many substandard goods are coming from the neighboring countries. A border like the one in Northern Kenya is so porous that counterfeits will easily find their way into the market", he said

Maitha also further warned Kenyans especially revelers to beware of the drinks they take during this festive season to avoid falling prey to the effects of sub-standards products that have overtime had adverse effects on its users.
