Speaking on Tuesday, the county boss blamed the same on the approaching general elections, where she noted that politicians are taking position in readiness for the contest.

In an interview on Citizen TV, she stated that the division is all about the succession politics, given that President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to retire after the 2022 polls.

However, she cautioned that while disagreements are accepted in democratic setup, there is need for politicians to avoid false allegations against others for political reasons.

“Politics of succession is causing division in Mt Kenya. Certain people have begun positioning themselves for succession. That is expected in a democracy. The only problem is when we make false accusations so as to become popular, " she said.

Waiguru said that the division can be classed in terms of ideologies, with one side siding with development while the other is for unending politicking.

She said that on one side is the Kieleweke group and on the other the Tangatanga side, adding that the two groups stand for different ideas.

"Those who think that we should be focused on development are called Kieleweke and the other ones who think that we should be politicking are called Tangatanga," she said.

The two groups have been engaged in a bitter exchange, with Kieleweke throwing its weight behind Uhuru and his development agenda.

On the other hand, Tangatanga has been in one front line in endorsing Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.

The governor has been seen more closer to the Kieleweke faction, which has also been seen as an anti-Ruto side.
