Exactly two years since their ticket lost the Mombasa County gubernatorial contest, former Kisauni MP Anania Mwaboza is battling to save his political life with only three years left to the next general election.
Mwaboza, who was Suleiman Shahbal's running mate is one of Deputy President William Ruto's most trusted political lieutenants in the region.
However, since they lost the 2017 contest to ODM's Hassan Joho, the former lawmaker is languishing in the political cold with no job offer so far from the government.
Before the 2017 election, Mwaboza who announced his arrival into the national politics in 2004 during the Kisauni by-election when he floored Joho, served as the DP's legal adviser.
Since his 2004 win, Mwaboza has struggled on the political scene, failing to win any election and has never held any elective position for over 12 years now.
With the focus now shifting to 2022 politics, Mwaboza's political future may be decided in the coming days.
However, as he continues to languish in the political cold, his fate is seemingly hanging on the balance. Should Dr Ruto continue to 'ignore' him, his political career may be as good as sealed.
As to whether he can reinvent himself and emerge as a political force in 2022 remains to be seen.
The big question though is, can Mwaboza, the man who arrived on stage with too much promise to fill the big political shoes left by Karisa Maitha defy all odds to reclaim his lost glory?
