Since then, she has had one of the most successful political careers in the country, especially for a female politician.

In 2007, she was elected as the Runyenjes MP, a seat she went on to defend in 2013. However, her stellar political journey was dealt a blow in 2017 when she lost to Martin Wambora  during the Jubilee Party nominations in her bid for Embu Governor.

However, her party come to her rescue when she was nominated to the National Assembly.

She has twice served as an Assistant Minister for Transport and Tourism.

Today, together with Taveta MP Naomi Shaban, no other female politician has served in the National Assembly longer than the two high-flying legislators.

Dr. Shaban was elected as Taveta MP in 2002 on a KANU ticket. By then, she was among the few politicians from the Coast region who survived the NARC wave during that election.

Since then, she has never lost the Taveta MP seat.

She has held top government positions since venturing into politics including that of Cabinet Minister in President Mwai Kibaki's government.
